Read about a state tourney with a strange twist

        There was a year in South Dakota basketball history in which a shocking development late in the regular season created an unexpected hardship for the team that was the defending state champion. The impact had a major influence on the state tournament.

        Learn about that controversial occurrence and its aftermath in the 2024 Fall Newsletter which was mailed on Oct. 29 by the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Another featured story in the 21^st edition of the newsletter recounts a uniquely talented player’s brilliant career and how it sadly was ended too soon.

        Also in the newsletter is a look back at a time in which some of the earliest standout girls players in the state helped get women’s college basketball off and running in South Dakota. And another story explains how a South Dakota team had an encounter with a legendary star when he was first emerging on the national scene.

        The free newsletter was mailed to the more than 1,500 readers residing in 44 states who are on the Hall of Fame mailing list. The first edition of the newsletter (shown at left) was published in fall 2014.
